2010 Ryan Goss Memorial Scholarship
The New Jersey Sports Clinics for Children with Special Needs were started with the goal of spreading autism awareness, while providing children with the opportunity to be a part of a team. Matthew Certner founded the clinic in 2006 with ten participants and only fifteen volunteers. Since then, the clinic has expanded into six cities statewide. Parents are proud to see their children in a situation where they can excel, instead of making extraordinary efforts attempting to keep up. The instructors, all volunteers from high school, work one-on-one with the children. There are currently over 200 students involved in the foundation. There is a beauty in the interaction, the love, and the bonds that develop between the children and the volunteers.
In 2009, the foundation experienced a terrible loss when the brother of a dedicated volunteer passed away. The Goss family, especially their daughter Katie, have been devoted members of the foundation. Ryan, the youngest son, will forever be remembered. It is the foundation’s privilege to create this new scholarship in memory of Ryan and in honor of the Goss family.
The Ryan Goss Memorial Scholarship awards $250.00 every year to a high school senior who has demonstrated philanthropic endeavors both in school and in the community.
