    Mentor Programs

Thank you for encouraging your child to help support our community by getting involved with the SNAP Mentor Program. SNAP has innovative opportunities to allow children to not only perform community service, but also gain valuable experiences working one on one with a child with special needs.

The Mentor Program starts with a free two-hour training workshop that provides mentors with the skills needed to work with children with disabilities. After completing the program mentors can assist with any of the programs that SNAP offers.

Sports Clinics For Children With Special Needs

    For 2009/2010 Schedule click here.

SNAP, Inc. is a non-profit organization designed to improve a child’s athletic and social ability. Our goal is to ultimately integrate children into the recreational leagues. After three years of running Sports Clinics we have had many success stories about reintegration into soccer, basketball and baseball! The children not only learn how to play these sports, but also gain confidence and self-esteem. Children and volunteers form everlasting bonds, creating a friendly teaching atmosphere.

Teachers have commented that these clinics have changed the behavior of some of the children:

“They are talking more in class and have become more outgoing and friendly.” – Hillcrest Elementary School Teacher (Morristown, New Jersey).

SNAP clinics are free (except Lodi which requires a registration fee). The clinics are designed for children to have fun, while families bond and relax. Although there is equipment donated, we do ask that families furnish their child’s own equipment if possible. (ex: Baseball glove, soccer ball, etc.) It is essential that children have equipment suitable to their size/age. With branches of Sports Clinics opening, we will soon have intramural activities!

Clinics are held twice a month. We hold our clinics from 6:00PM – 7:00 PM and 7:00-8:00 (Dr. Paul Abend found this the best time for children to practice, without getting frustrated.) The sports include: Soccer, basketball, and baseball.

    In House Buddy Program

Two mentors are matched with one specific child and visit their home to provide friendship. This is wonderful for mentors who want a one-on-one environment with a flexible schedule. This agreement requires that the parent remain at home to train the mentor involved with their child, and supervise all activities. The mentor’s parent is welcome at any time to call the child’s parent, meet with the family, and/or accompany the mentor to their home until they feel comfortable.

    Dream It Forward Campaign

This program will help redefine the future for people with disabilities. You will see how, by volunteering a few hours of your time, along with the simple act of passing the dream forward, you can change the lives and future of people with disabilities on a national level. Please join in this program, designed by a group of young adults ages 12 to 19 (Pathways Lead Mentors), and help us achieve this winning dream.
